This free icebreaker can be used to help break the ice in a fun and relaxed way at the beginning of a training session or meeting.
The icebreaker can be used during training where you want to focus on listening skills, body language or any training session that involves careful attention to actions and sounds or words.
This icebreaker can also be used as an energiser throughout a training session.

Instructions – prior to starting this icebreaker, the trainer should clearly explain the instructions to the group.
1. Arrange everyone so that they are in a large circle.
2. The person that starts the icebreaker will perform an action combined with a sound or statement. For instance, they could jog on the spot and hum the national anthem.
3. The task of the next person in the circle is to copy exactly the actions and sounds of the person before them.
4. This continues around the group, but the key point is that the next person should copy the actions and sounds of only the person before them and add or subtract any additional actions or sound that occur. This is where the ‘evolve’ part comes in as for instance, a person may perform the action and then giggle – this giggle would become a part of the next person’s action.
5. The actions continue around the circle until it reaches the end or at a point when the trainer feels it has run its course.
6. The point of the icebreaker is to demonstrate how we are all different and even what seems like a basic action can be interpreted differently by others and how things evolve through interpretation and personal difference.
Of course the icebreaker is also a lot of fun and allows participants to relax, have fun and then review the serious points that follow.
