It looks at some of the common injuries, illnesses and emergencies relating to health conditions that may be encountered. To put it simply, this online course is designed to empower learners with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond effectively to a wide range of workplace incidents, from minor injuries to more serious health conditions. With this e-learning course:

Module 1 – Introduction
  • Review a scenario that tests your current knowledge
  • Explore the aims and intention of the course
  • An overview of the main course content for reference

Module 2 – Allergic Reactions
  • Explain what allergic reactions are and how they can cause anaphylactic shock
  • Identify allergies that your colleagues may have and how you might help manage them
  • Spotting the signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock
  • Establishing what to do if someone has a severe allergic reaction​
Module 3 – Bleeding
  • Know what to do when someone is bleeding from a wound, including, preparing, stopping, cleaning and covering
  • Identify when to get help and/or take someone to A&E
  • Establish what nosebleeds are and how to deal with them​
Module 4 – Breathing Problems
  • Explore the common breathing problems that may be encountered
  • Review asthma attacks, what they are, the signs and symptoms and how to deal with them
  • Review hyperventilation, what it is, the signs and symptoms, and what to do when someone is hyperventilating
  • Review choking, the different kinds, the signs and symptoms and how to respond to each​
Module 5 – Bone and Muscle Injuries
  • Explore the four common bone and tissue injuries that you might encounter in the workplace
  • Review fractures, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if you suspect someone has one
  • Review dislocated joints, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if you suspect someone has one
  • Review sprains and strains, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if you suspect someone has one
  • Use the ICE process to treat sprains and strains
Module 6 – Burns and Scolds
  • Explore what burns and scalds are and how they might occur
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of burns and scalds
  • Classifying burns and scalds
  • Review the steps to take if someone sustains a burn or scald
  • Review what to do if someone sustains an electrical or chemical burn
  • Know when and how to get help
Module 7 – Diabetic Emergencies
  • Explore and define diabetes, hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia
  • Establish what do if someone is hyperglycaemic
  • Identify what to do if someone is hypoglycaemic
  • Know when and how to get help​
Module 8 – Head and Spinal Injuries
  • Review minor and major head injuries, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if someone has one
  • Review spinal injuries, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if someone has one
  • Establish what to do depending on if the person with a spinal injury is responsive or unresponsive
  • Using the jaw thrust technique to keep airways open
Module 9 – Heart Problems
  • Explore the three common heart problems, cardiac arrests, heart attacks and angina attacks
  • Review cardiac arrests, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if someone has one
  • Review heart attacks, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if someone has one
  • Review angina attacks, what they are, the signs and symptoms and what to do if someone has one​
Module 10 – Seizures
  • Establish what a seizure is
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of a seizure
  • Know what to do when someone is having a seizure
  • When to get help for someone having a seizure​
Module 11 – Shock
  • Establish what we mean by ‘going into shock’
  • Explore the signs and symptoms of someone going into shock
  • Know what to do when someone is going into shock​
Module 12 – Strokes
  • Establish what a stroke is
  • Explore the signs and symptoms of a stroke, using FAST
  • Know what to do when someone has a stroke​
Module 13 – Recap
  • A full review of the key points covered
Module 14 – Assessment and CPD certificate
  • A chance to test your knowledge of the topic with scoring
