Intended for:
This free icebreaker can be used to help break the ice in a fun and relaxed way at the beginning of a training session or meeting.
The icebreaker can be used during training where you want to ensure participants mix and get active.
This icebreaker can also be used as an energiser throughout a training session.
Training course contents:
A set of instructions for the training icebreaker, ‘Guard Invader’ can be downloaded in Word format from the link at the bottom of this page, or you can follow the instructions below.
Instructions – prior to starting this icebreaker, the trainer should clearly explain the instructions to the group. Please also ensure that everyone is safe during this icebreaker and that no accidents occur.
1. Ask participants to wander around the room and mingle and mix with each other.
2. As they are wandering around the room they should look out of the corner of their eye and choose a person that will be their ‘Invader’
3. Once they have their ‘Invader’ they should look out of the corner of their eye once more and choose someone to be their ‘Guard’
4. They should ensure that no one knows who they have picked as their guard or invader
5. Once the trainer calls the activity to start. The participants must do all they can to ensure that there ‘invader’ cannot get to them, they do this by trying to ensure their ‘guard’ is always between them and the ‘invader’
6. Of course, the result of this activity is that everyone suddenly starts to rush around the room as they try and keep their own guard in the way of their invader. It is great fun as people get squashed into corners and try to avoid obstacles and each other
7. Stop the icebreaker when everyone is exhausted or you think they have moved around enough.
The icebreaker ends when they have achieved the task or the trainer calls a halt to the proceedings.
The icebreaker should be seen as a smooth introduction that gets people to mix and mingle with people they might not have previously.
