Intended for:
This free energiser is a fun way of presenting the concept that we all have different perceptions and see things differently. It helps to re-frame participant thinking and gets them to look at problems from a different perspective.
Training course contents:
A set of instructions for the free energiser, ‘Happy?’ can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page. The notes for the energiser are listed below.
Instructions:
Show the ‘Who looks happier?’ slide to the participants (available from the download at the bottom of this page) and ask them to tell you who they think looks happier. Once you have discussed their thoughts (and had a bit of an argument!), use the notes below to provide feedback.
Feedback:
If you are right handed, you probably think the character on the right is happier. If you are left-handed, the left figure is likely to appear more jolly. This test was devised by the psychologist Julian Jaynes to show how our perception is affected by our left-right lateralisation of our brains. About 90% of right handed persons consider the right face to be more friendly, about 60% of the left handed persons prefer the left face.
Objectives:
This energiser helps participants identify that we all see things from different perspectives and it can be useful to alter our way of looking at things.
