Duration: 20 minutes

Intended for:

This free energiser helps with teamwork, communication and creative thinking and can be used in a variety of ways during training courses related to these topics.

The aim is to encourage participants to think creatively and to work together to come up with an interesting and engaging solution.

Training course contents:

A  set of instructions for the free energiser, ‘In a Pickle’ can be downloaded for free from the link at the bottom of this page. You can also see the full energiser instructions below.

Instructions:

  1. Place participants into groups (if you have a small number of participants, they can all work together).
  1. Explain that each group should prepare a story that they will be asked to read out. This story will be the sequence of events that led up to the scenario that you will provide them with.
  1. They have 10 minutes to prepare their story and then you will give them some time to present their lead up story.
  1. The scenario is…

“A man is found dead on a rooftop in the middle of New York City. He is surrounded by pigeons and in his hands, he is clinging tightly to two jars filled with pickles.”

Of course, you can replace the scenario with one of your own if you want to.

In review:

There are many things you can discuss with this energiser. The main point is creative thinking. How did the creative part of the process work? What made the activity creative? Did they feel under pressure, or did the nature of the activity reduce this? What inspired them? How did it make them feel?

Another key point is the idea of teamwork and communication. What worked well? What didn’t work so well? How can they use this approach in the workplace? What lessons did they learn?

Objectives:

The main focus of this free energiser is creative thinking. However, there are also applications for teamwork, communication and working together creatively.
