Intended for:
This energiser is just for fun, but it does encourage participants to think creatively and is useful for training sessions where you want to demonstrate thinking skills, creativity or alternative approaches to problems.
Training course contents:
You can download a set of instrcutions for the energiser, ‘In My Defence’ from the link at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can follow the notes below.
Resources Needed:
Flipchart and pens.
Instructions:
Prior to running the energiser, write a series of scenarios on the flipchart. These should be things that people typically come up with wild excuses for. For example…
- Not doing homework
- Not completing a project
- Being late in to work
- Missing a special day with your partner
- Not going out
- Forgetting a Birthday
Explain to participants that all of these are things that people often come up with crazy explanations ‘In their defence’.
Place participants into groups and ask them to come up with some crazy responses to the example situations you have given.
In review, discuss the examples provided by the participants and then discuss the thought process that went into coming up with the ideas.
Was it experience?
A process of selection?
Ideas that grew from other ideas? Etc.
Objectives:
This energiser is useful to develop creative skills and explore the thought process behind ideas. It would be a useful energiser to run for a problem solving training course.
