Intended for:
This energiser is useful in highlighting the fact that we all interpret information in different ways and that how we interpret this information can mean very different results. Particularly useful during leadership training, communication and related topics.
Training course contents:
You can download a set of instructions for the energiser, ‘Interpretation’ in Word format from the link at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can follow the notes below.
Instructions:
Call out a series of well-known phrases and ask participants to write down their interpretation of what the phrase means to them.
Examples are:
I’ll be back in a bit
In due time
Free from alterations
Updated to include
Outdated materials
Linked to strategy
Once participants have completed the task, hold a discussion around how we might perceive information differently to each other.
Their answers to the phrases are likely different to each other and this throws up some interesting debate.
For instance; some might think that ‘a bit’ is 2 minutes, where others might think it is hours.
This energiser is most useful when you use examples from the participants workplace.
Objectives:
This energiser shows how we all take different messages from the same phrases. We’ve found this energiser useful in the following Trainer Bubble training courses…
