Number Rumble – Free Energiser

Free
Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

Intended for:

We first witnessed this competitive activity in our back garden when our children played it with some visiting friends. We immediately recognised the potential for this as a fun energiser that can be used for any active group during a training session.

Training course contents:

Instructions to help you run the energiser, ‘Number Rumble’ can be downloaded in Word format and for free from the link at the bottom of this page, or you can follow the notes below.

Resources Needed:

  • Blank paper cut into pieces the size of credit cards.
  • Sticky tape
  • Plenty of obstruction free space

Instructions:

1. If you have enough space available you can involve everyone in this activity. Alternatively you can ask for two volunteers and allow everyone else to be spectators. You ask for further volunteers and play more than one round. Don’t worry – the spectators are likely to be laughing so much that this activity will also help to energise them.

2. Give each participant a piece of paper and ask them to write a number on it, making sure that their opponent does not see this. When all participants have done this attach their number to their own back using the sticky tape. It is important that opponents do not see each other’s numbers.

3. Explain that this is a non contact activity and that the participants must not touch each other during it. Tell them that when you say ‘go’ they will have two minutes to attempt to see the number on their opponents back. The first one to see the opponent’s number calls it out and is declared the winner.

4. If there is no winner within two minutes declare the contest a draw or invite the opponents to guess each other’s number. If both participants try equally a draw is the likely outcome.

5. When you start the activity the participants move, twist and turn in an attempt to see the number. The first time people see this activity it tends to generate a lot of laughter but will only work for groups who are game to participate.

6. Be health and safety aware and ensure that the area used for this activity is free of any obstructions. Also, do check with participants that there are no physical reasons why they should not participate. Finally, emphasise the non-contact nature of the energiser.

Objectives:

Use this energiser to help energise participants when it is necessary to raise their energy levels during a training programme.
