
Intended for:
Scavenger hunts are a good way to get participants working in teams. They also work well as energisers.
Customise the list of items you want participants to find and the hunt is also a good way for participants to learn about your organisation. This means that the energiser activity can be used as part of an induction programme.

- Scavenger trail list with instructions for participants.
Objective:
1. For participants to experience working in a team and to analyse the performance of their team and/or
2. To help re energise participants during a training event and/or by varying the scavenger trail list
3. To help participants learn about your organisation during an induction session
Resources Needed:
Enough copies of the scavenger trail sheet for each team to have one.
Small prizes, such as sweets to be shared by the winning team.
Instructions:
- Split participants into at least two teams – maximum of 4 per team.
- Give each group one copy of the Scavenger Trail list available for free from the download link at the bottom of this page. Feel free to edit the list to reflect items appropriate to your business.
- Explain that they have 15 minutes to collect as many of the items listed on the sheet as possible, and bring them back to the room.
- For each item that they collect they are awarded 1 point.
- Any team without all their members back in the training room when the 15 minutes is up loses 5 points from their final total.
- Send them off on their task, and set your watch for 15 minutes later.
- After 15 minutes, ask a volunteer from each team to check and mark an opponent’s treasure. Award a prize for the team with the most points.
Discussion Points:
Use the following questions as prompts to lead a discussion on how the teams worked together. Possible answers are in brackets.
1. What made this exercise difficult? (time restraints, only having one sheet per team)
2. What tactics did your team plan to help achieve this task? (assigning roles, Regular reunions and reviews)
3. How would you do this differently next time?
4. What have you learnt about teamwork from this activity? (need to assign roles, discuss and agree a way forward, work together and not all go off in different directions to do the same thing)
