Stupid Questions – Free Training Game

Duration: 30 - 60 minutes

Intended for:

This free training game is useful to use when you want to test participants ability to respond to ‘stupid’ questions from customers and deal with their queries in an effective way. It also adds a bit of fun to a session and will rejuvenate a lagging group. It also throws up an interesting debate about, ‘What is a stupid question?’

Training course contents:

A set of instructions for the training game, ‘Stupid Questions’ can be downloaded for free from the link at the bottom of this page, or you can follow the notes below.

Simply provide the participants with the list of ‘stupid’ questions provided in the free download at the bottom of this page (also shown below) and ask them to come up with the best response possible by way of feedback.

You can place participants into groups or ask them to work alone. Once they have spent some time working on their response to the questions, ask them to feedback to the whole group.

This activity can be completed as a written exercise or vocally. You may even decide to create a role play scenario to add a bit more realism to the practice.

It is wise to split the questions up between the groups, as otherwise the activity can take too much time.

Stupid Questions:
The following are real questions taken from the US National Parks Guides, Visit Scotland, Visit Britain, English Heritage and Australian Tourist Board.

1. “Are there any lakes in the Lake District?”

2. “In what month is the May Day demonstration?”

3. “What is the entry fee for Brighton?”

4. “Why on earth did they build Windsor Castle on the flight path of Heathrow?”

5. “Is this where Sharon and Ozzie actually live?” – Asked by a visitor to Osborne House, Isle of Wight

6. “Is Wales closed during the winter?”

7. “Can you tell me who performs at the circus in Piccadilly?”

8. “Why did they build so many ruined castles and abbeys in England?”

9. “What time do you switch the mist off?” – Asked a visitor to Dover Castle

10. “Do you have any information on (former Page 3 girl) Samantha Fox?”

11. “Which bus do I get from the Orkney Islands to the Shetland Islands?”

12. “What time does the Loch Ness monster surface and who feeds it?”

13. “Is Edinburgh in Glasgow?”

14. “Can I wear high heels in Australia?”

15. “Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round?”

16. “I want to walk from Perth to Sydney – can I follow the railroad tracks?”

17. “Which direction is North in Australia?”

18. “Was this man-made?” – A Tourist at the Grand Canyon National Park

19. “How much of the caves is underground?”

20. “Do you know of any undiscovered ruins?”

Use this training game to test participants ability to respond to questions raised by customers that are challenging and perhaps a little ‘bizarre’.

This training game works particularly well on customer service related training courses.
