The Good and the Bad – Free Energiser

Free
Duration: 20 minutes

Intended for:

This free energiser will help participants identify both a ‘good’ and ‘bad’ way of doing something and consequently the changes in their own behaviour that they should make to help improve. The energiser should be used in situations where you want to make changes in behaviour.

Training course contents:

A  set of instructions for the free energiser, ‘The Good and the Bad’ can be downloaded for free from the link at the bottom of this page. You can also see the full energiser instructions below.

Resources

Flipchart paper and pens.

Instructions

  1. Place participants into two groups and label one group ‘the good’ and the other group ‘the bad’.
  1. Provide the participants with a situation that you would like them to focus on. This would be an element from the training course in which a change of behaviour is required.
  1. Explain that you would like each group to consider the situation and come up with some ideas for how to deal with it. One group will focus on handling the situation in a good way, and the other group will focus on handling the situation in a bad way.
  1. Give them 10 minutes to come up with their ideas and ask them to consider the following aspects…
  1. The specific situation
  2. The people involved
  3. The kind of language and behaviour they want to demonstrate
  1. After the 10 minutes, ask them to present their ideas (if you want to make it more interesting you can ask them to act it out).

In Review

Ask the participants to highlight any key points from the presentation they have seen. What stood out? What was important? What were the differences? Why?

Ask the participants to identify methods of changing their current approach to the situation and why this might improve things.

Ask participants to write down some actions that they will commit to taking to help overcome the issues raised and to improve the situation in future.

Objectives:

This free energiser helps participants focus on changes in their behaviour that can close performance gaps.
