Intended for:
This free energiser is great for helping participants to identify their skills and also allows them to not only focus on their job skills, but also the benefits this has for those around them. It can also be used as a means to develop their own, ‘elevator pitch’.
Training course contents:
A set of instructions for the free energiser, ‘We’re all FAB’ can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page. You can also follow the notes for the energiser below.
Instructions:
- Start by explaining the difference between a feature and a benefit. A feature is a characteristic or a trait, whereas a benefit is what that characteristic or trait can do for somebody e.g. a wristwatch may have an attractive face and a nice bracelet – these are features. A benefit is that it helps you tell the time, which means that you are not late for important meetings.
- Ask participants to work in small groups and write down all of the job roles of the people in that group e.g. ‘I train people’ or, ‘I answer customer calls’.
- Now, ask the group to turn those features into benefits e.g. ‘I train people, which helps them perform their jobs more effectively’ or, ‘I answer customer calls, which means that their queries can be answered quickly and easily’.
- Once they have done this, ask them to choose the biggest benefit from each person and turn this into a catchy phrase that ‘sells’ that person e.g. ‘Learn how to perform your job more effectively, from a world class trainer’ or, ‘Ensure your customers get the best service – immediately, with a leading call handling consultant’.
Objectives:
This energiser is great for helping participants focus on their skills and benefits to the organisation. You can also make the activity fun by choosing a no-work-related skill e.g. ‘Team Leader can teach you how to polish off a packet of biscuits in two minutes flat!’
