Intended for:
Use this free icebreaker to help participants get to know each other and break the ice. This icebreaker is particularly useful for training courses where you want to inject a bit of energy right from the start.
Training course contents:
A set of instructions for the icebreaker, ‘Word Arranger’ can be downloaded for free from the link at the bottom of this page, or you can follow the notes below.
Resources – a sentence printed out onto A4 pieces of paper (coloured paper is better) with one word of the sentence on each piece.
Preparation – pre-prepare a short sentence that you feel relates to the training course that you are going to run. Once you have that sentence, use one piece of A4 paper to write one word in large letters for every word of the sentence.
Once you have written the sentence on the A4 sheets, screw each A4 word up into a ball.
Instructions – take your screwed up balls into the training course with you and right at the start throw the screwed up balls to people in the room. Tell them to keep throwing the paper balls to each other.
After a short while of paper ball throwing, call ‘stop’ and tell those people who have the paper balls to come to the front of the room. Once they are there, tell them to unscrew the paper ball that they have.
Next, explain that each word makes up a sentence and that they have 3 minutes to organise themselves into the sentence.
An example of a sentence we have used is; ‘If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got’.
Objectives:
This icebreaker creates energy and gets the session off with a positive and fun start.
