Hints and tips for job hunting

Posted June 1st, 2018

Everyone knows that landing the perfect job isn’t going to be all plain sailing, expect a challenge or two along the way. So it’s not surprising that candidates spend hours of their day looking across the internet for hints and tips. Any candidate applying for a new job will most certainly be aware that it is vital that you proof read CVs and also write a cover letter for every application.

Numbers count

In the job market of today, employers have more than enough candidates to choose from, they often receive hundreds of applications per job vacancy. So, it is always necessary to apply for more than one job, as the odds of applying for just one and getting it in the bag are slim to none. By applying for several jobs at a time and handing out your CV to as many hiring managers as possible, you will maximise your chances immensely. Bearing that in mind, you will still need to be selective about the roles you apply for.

Always tailor your CV

Sending a tailored cover letter is a well-known job hunting tip, but are you also doing this with your CV? Being relevant with your CV is crucial when applying for any job. Take a few minutes of your day to check your CV against the job advert. It may become tedious, but tailoring your CV for each new application has to be better than making 10 generic applications that may not attract any attention.

Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone

In the digital age, it can sometimes seem too old fashioned to approach a recruiter by telephone, but it can be very effective. If you’ve made an application online and haven’t had a response in a few days, don’t be afraid to pick up the phone. A friendly follow-up call with the recruiter will allow you to draw attention to your CV.
